As one of Sharpeville’s oldest and most respected sporting institutions, Sharpeville Rhinos Sports Club is more than just a football club—it is a sanctuary for talent and a hub for community connection.

Originally founded in 1995 as Real Benfica (and later Sharpeville Benfica), we entered an exciting new era in 2023 by partnering with the UK’s Blackheath Rhinos to become the Sharpeville Rhinos.
For decades, we have served as a premier breeding ground for exceptional athletes. Our comprehensive development structures, ranging from Under-8 to Under-17, ensure that every child has a path to success. With SAFA and CAF-accredited coaches, some of whom are former player, we combine professional expertise with a deep-rooted passion for our community.

Coach Motsamai Motsepe

I am Coach Motsamai Motsepe. For the past 17 years, I have focused on the heart of the game: youth development. My approach combines the technical rigour of a CAF B License with a deep, local understanding of talent identification. I don’t just coach players; I scout and refine the specific attributes needed for the highest levels of the sport.

Coach Bongani Makakola

My name is Coach Bongani Makakola, A dedicated football coach with over 8 years of experience specializing in the foundational stages of player development. Currently holding a CAF D License (SAFA), I am committed to technical excellence and the continuous evolution of my coaching methodology. I focus on creating disciplined, high-energy environments where young talent can transition from grassroots play to competitive football.

Coach Scotch “Dashiki” Maphanga

I’m a very passionate youth coach, and I also played professionally for Vaal Professionals F.C. in the 70s and 80s. I’ve been coaching youth since 1989 and have also coached Vaal regional squads in the past.

Manager Thabang Moleli

As an IT professional, I understand the power of systems. As a Founder of the Sharpeville Rhinos, I apply that same drive to building a future for our youth. Formerly known as Sharpeville Benfica, our club is more than just a team; it’s a vehicle for community service. I am dedicated to bridging the gap between professional success and grassroots development for the next generation.

Lydia Lee Ndongela
